Robots to help at check in

'Chip', the robot check-in assistant

Air New Zealand has been trialling the use of Chip the robot to help with check in at Sydney Airport.

The black and white robot called Chip has two eyes, two ears, two arms but no mouth. He communicates via a touch screen on his chest to help customers at check in.

Chip was introduced to passengers at Sydney Airport on Monday. His eyes scan passenger’s boarding cards after which he waves goodbye.

This is just an experiment from Air New Zealand for one week to see how passengers interact with robotic check in staff.
