A private plane overshot the runway at Liverpool John Lennon Airport this morning at 6am.

Thankfully, no one has been hurt but passengers’ travel plans have been disrupted as the airport will be closed until an inquiry into the incident has been concluded.

The private plane operated by VistaJet was carrying Mr Gordon who is president of Fenway Sports Group and one of the owners of Liverpool football club. He was travelling from Massachusetts to Liverpool to attend a meeting at the club.

A specialist removal team are on hand ready to move the plane once the Air Accident Investigation Branch say it is safe to do so.

Passengers due to fly this morning have been advised to contact their airlines for further information.
