Aberdeen Airport has been operating since 1934 and is currently owned by LHR Airports Limited.
They currently employ over 250 people who work at either the main fixed wing terminal or the offshore fixed-wing terminal or one of the three helicopter terminals. The helicopter service is essential for linking the North Sea offshore oil rigs to the mainland.
Flights operate many UK destinations including Bristol,London Heathrow, Southampton and Manchester . European destinations include France, Portugal, Italy, Norway and Germany to name a few.
Several tour operators fly from aberdeen, including Thomas cook, First Choice and Balkan Holidays. They offer both winter and summer holidays to a variety of european destinations.
Flight operators Flybe, BMi Regional, British Airways and virgin Atlantic are all familiar names operating in and out of Aberdeen.
Currently there is a big improvement programme occurring with the airport having a ten million pound investment in extending the runway, improving passenger facilities such as new airline lounges, shops and restaurants which will be great news for passengers. The improvements are due to be completed by 2015.
Last year more than 3.48 million passengers passed through Aberdeen International Airport which is a record for them. They have added new routes to Oslo, Tunisia, Dublin, New York, Malaga, Verona, Naples and Sicily. The terminal opens from 4 am. There is an executive lounge operated by Servisair, where travellers can relax in quiet surroundings, with complimentary alcohol ( except Champagne)newspapers and magazine, television and comfortable seating.
Aberdeen Airport is going through changes ! From February the 3rd passengers arriving at the airport will have to use a temporary entrance next to the Granite Pub hilst the revolving doors are being replaced. The replacement of the doors marks the start of long term airport improvements
