Visiting the Lake District has just become a lot easier thanks to the decision by Carlisle Airport to start passenger flights from London, Belfast and Dublin.

The Stobart Group who run Carlisle Airport have been granted a £5 million stimulus to upgrade its terminal and runway. The money has come from Cumbria’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), who decide how to allocate government development funds.

In 2014, Carlisle City Council gave the Stobart Group permission to redevelop the airport, which helped to save 800 jobs.

The airport currently only offers private flights, flying schools and airplane maintenance.

As you can see from the map below, Carlisle Airport is well located for visitors to the Lake District.

As soon as we can offer airport parking at Carlisle we will add it to our list of airports.
