Prestwick International Airport really took off in 1934.
Today it prides itself on being Scotland’s “best value airport” with low cost carrier Ryanair predominantly operating flights to and from Prestwick.
It is also Scotland’s premier freight airport. In October 2013, it was announced by the Scottish parliament that the airport is to be taken into public ownership. A move welcomed by Ryanair.
Currently the airport handles three million passengers, with a future potential capacity of up to eight million travellers.
Passengers can fly to over twenty five European destinations with winter and summer flight timetables.
The airport offers a variety of eating and drinking facilities including the Elvis bar which pays homage to one of Prestwick’s most famous visitors, Elvis Presley. He memorable touched down at the airport in 1960 to refuel!
