Newcastle Airport was officially opened in 1935.
In those days passengers would have had to deal with a grass runway and a basic clubhouse and aircraft hangar, however today Newcastle International Airport is the largest airport in the northeast of England with over four million passengers passing through the departure and arrival lounges.
Newcastle international is operated by a public and private partnership and also is responsible for a significant cargo and freight operation which handles over two hundred tonnes of cargo every month Passengers can choose to fly direct to seventy four destinations, Air France, Air Malta, British Airways, Eastern Airways, Easyjet, Emirates, Flybe and Jet2 all over scheduled and value charter flights alongside tour operators such as Thomas cook and Thomson Holidays.
There are several pubs, restaurants and cafes to choose from after the usual security checks. There are also two executive lounges operated by British Airways and Servisair.
